introducing a brand new label from berlin-based greek, john dimas. elephant moon is a platform conceived by john to simply collect and release music from his talented group of friends. having built up a strong reputation thanks to his excellent back catalogue of productions on labels such as one records and la vie en rose, he decided that now is the time to dedicate his deep knowledge of house and techno to running a label of his own.

its toby tobias time folks! ahead of his brilliant lp which will be dropping here on dog in september we give you a little reminder of why he’s one of the heroes of the underground uk house scene. toby has been honing his skills as a producer, dj, promoter and all round nice guy for years now and we’re very happy to be offering up fresh new club business from the man himself in the form of the rising ep. never one to go for the obvious, he always puts his neck on the line and pushes his productions in an interesting and often unexpected direction, making full use of his fully analogue studio to get those ‘happy accidents’ into his tracks which gives him the edge over so many others on the scene today.

mojuba sub label a.r.t.less welcomes another addition to the label roster, but dutch techno boss darko esser is no stranger to the game. in more recent time he showcased his talents under the acclaimed tripeo moniker, but now its time to unleash a powerful and very emotional ep under his original name. the wolfskuil & balans cofounder turns in two tracks for his label debut that will catch your attention right away, being capable to maintain any crowd from sunny festival ravers to lost in a moment underground clubbers!

originally released on richie hawtins minus label a decade ago, restore stands alone as houles very first long-player and helped to establish his penchant for the quirkier side of techno and his superlative production skills. spread across three 12inches & 11 tracks it encapsulated the dark, minimal, groove-driven sound purveyed by hawtin and the rest of the minus crew, while retaining a strong sense of houles unique character and identity. now its the perfect time to breath new life into an album that has stood the test of time, still utterly infectious and absorbing - a collection of music that captures an era of stripped back, yet captivating sounds. 10 years since its release, the album is getting the remix treatment and marc has called in some of the very best in techno talent to give restore a fresh makeover.

final chapter was started in 2013 by stockholm s sean dixon, along with support from perseus traxx. a label which is happy to let the music do the talking, final chapter is now on it s fifth release, and shows no sign of being prepared to letting the book close. the journey of detroit and chicago influenced house and techno continues on this release as label head sean dixon presents an ep split between himself and boston s john barera, who s previous releases outside of his own label, supply records, have issues fourth on soul clap and dolly, as well as steffis panorama bar mix cd on ostgut ton. remix duties come courtesy of berlin based producer, palms trax, who s first outing was in 2013 on lobster theramin.

time for some double dutch action with apollonia’s latest release, which comes courtesy of makcim & levi. the twosome have already been picking up steam in their native holland, playing at many of the country’s best-known clubs over the last few years, establishing themselves as selectors in a class of their own. and their prowess as djs is equal to their talents as producers, with their very first ep appearing on raum musik and finding its way into apollonia’s sets. now they’ve got together once again to produce their second ep just for the apollonia guys…the ‘more lettuce’ ep fits perfectly into the french label’s sound ethic, emitting a dark groovy energy throughout. for starters we have ‘more lettuce’, a gritty tech-driven monster on a mission. with its gravely percussion and air-raid siren-esque effects this is a surefire dance floor killer… listen out for the switch of pace, class. this is followed by ‘tegel’, presumably named after the airport in berlin. with this we get a kind of dingy berlin vibe, morose, grey yet ingrained with a bouncing energy that you just can’t help but bop your head to. on the flip side ‘thaiman’ injects a slightly odd feel to the ep with warped, muted sounds meandering around a subtle bassline. finally, makcim & levi close up the ep with ‘dope erwt’ another roller that will enchant the dance floor from the start, building into a bright, airy breakdown before continuing in its somber yet groovy manner.

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.

available on vinyl (limited to 200 copies, no repress). release number eight on telefonplan is an all family affair. joining mad mats & toolis team of artists is swedish producer wiz andreas saag. mr saag has taken the leap from local talk and now makes his debut on telefonplan. opening track justice is dark, deep and with a sumptuous bass to sink your teeth into. it is rough and punchy with a clever vocal sample that almost works like a chant. justice comes in two versions, for those of you who like your song instrumental we have made sure your wish is granted too, it still got enough intensity about it without losing the pulsating heaviness. on the flipside, call of yacuma could be described as a grittier and stripped down version of andreas previous local talk track in the box. it is pure simplicity and groove makes it simply irresistible. listening to these tracks it is clear mr saag has been influenced by living in berlin these past years. both justice and call of yacuma wouldnt sound out of place in a dark club with a big soundsystem late at night. just make sure you get past the bouncer while entering the club.

2014 was a definitely a huge year for dance music, with many up and coming artists being thrown into the lifestyle of hectic partying and relentless touring schedules. this also means that those who exploded onto the scene prior are no longer the new kids on the block. a few years is a long time in the life of a dj, and the first few years are often the maddest. the adana twins are a perfect example of one of these artists, having emerged onto the scene in 2012 with releases such as everyday and strange , from the off it was clear that they had everybody s undivided attention. hailing from berlin, but spiritually from chi-town, snuff crew are back in your area with some freshly served up basement goodies once again. following on from basement jams #1, from all the way back in 2011, the boys bring us tracks with the same playful nature as before but, dare i say it, they go even harder this time. stalwart fans of the first release can stop reading now because it will almost certainly be a blind-buy for you, four tracks obviously engineered for use in the club, whether its the massive kick in ‘what it is’ or the ravey acid lead in ‘88cents’. the jams on the b-side may do the most damage. ‘remember’ holds absolutely nothing back, with its arpeggiated bassline lead and crisper than crisp 909 drum programming. analog is a term that gets bandied about all the time nowadays, ever since so many young producers became enamoured with tape compression and hiss delay plug-ins. i know snuff crew are real analog guys though, in sound and mentality, so hearing basement jams #2 for the first time had me so excited once again.

one modest man known as das komplex has been steadily producing music for almost a decade now in his quiet hometown of koszalin in western pomerania region of poland. it could have stayed like this if not for maciek sienkiewicz (veteran dj and promoter, one of the pioneers of polish electronic music scene), who picked some tunes for his new label fasrat. as the artist himself prefers to stay out of the spotlight, let the music speak for itself: from sun-drenched, guitar-driven like a fish (remixes coming from some key players in modern disco/balearic scene), through futuristic disco of -narkoleptyczni troche- and hazy deepness of nowadays, towards epic, over 13 minutes long, jazzy, dreamy, but no less energetic -siren-. elegant, original, infectious grooves for club play and home listening alike. limited edition with cover art by acclaimed contemporary painter aleksandra waliszewska

here comes the first ep by grad_u on echocord. after his remix of stl on echocord 063, he is now releasing a full lenght ep. this ep contains 3 powerfull dub-techno tracks perfect for the dancefloor. born and grew up in a countryside near vilnius, lithuania. started djing in early 97, at the age of 13. been focusing on wide spectrum of sounds: house, techno, drumnbass and jungle. in early 2005 the start of grad_u project took place, focusing on deep side of techno. during the years released tracks and remixes various labels and in 2012 launched two own imprints: redscale and greyscale.

now living in warsaw, donnell knox was well known, along with black nation s jay denham for forging a tough, distinct kalamazoo techno sound in the 90s. his label, sonic mind, put out some very coveted, underground wax that still sounds unique, extra rugged, and fresh. well d-knox is now on a bit of a comeback mission it seems, with some really inspiring new material, and “africa calling”. the first version, created to donnell’s much loved “spirit man” alias, is a soulful trek through layers of pads and emotive synth work. the simple, but uplifting, vocal snippet really gives it an organic and spiritual feel, the tempo is driving and quick, but the overall vibe is laid back and deep. remixes come from the likes of brooklyn based titonton duvante, who maximizes a synth pattern to a form a beautiful, reaching, version, while canada’a rennie foster channels his futago traxx style to present a full on tribal, drum based mix with added vocal pieces. also, detroit transplant, now living in canada as well, j garrett goes in with a very emotional, warm, string laden take. the ep is capped off with another version from donnell that could stand as it’s own track really, a totally different, but equally as strong, version featuring a driving baseline and detroit style string vamps. a really nice release, worthy of your support, from a well loved veteran of the techno underground.

now already almost a year has gone by since “inspiration”, the collaboration between jah wobble and singer pj higgins has come out on sonar kollektiv. with “chaingang (remixes)” we get a further renewal of one of the eight tracks off the album. for instance utrecht, netherlands based multi-instrumentalist and producer pitto gets down to work to morph the song into an eight-minute spheric techno extravaganza. some sort of a teaser for his upcoming album on sonar kollektiv later this year (although it will sound completely different). also releasing an album on sonar kollektiv in 2015 is producer marlow from weimar. his voodoo version of “chaingang” draws nearer to the original and incorporates the jubilee style gospel chanting to a hypnotically impelling rhythm. at the right time at the right place this remix will cause outmost frenzy on the dancefloor.

on his side ed bangers boss has called frances hottest producers fulgeance and dj oil. they are both representing whats happening right now in france. fulgeance could be the hidden son of the dust brothers! dj oil has been here for a long time, signed to bbe and gilles petersons favorite, he is a man we can only respect. you will surely enjoy his 7 minutes growing funk machine remix

after the last lessizmore release found san proper and maayan nidam crossing swords for the simmering, jammed-out tones of it was a night like this, now the label turns to another close ally for a slice of discerning, upfront house music. louis mcguire lives many different lives in music, from drumming with indie pop outfit ballet school to playing bass for lo-fi electronica group the waves & us. now though his own solo productions are being noticed in the house and techno world, with this new ep following on from a well-received debut on supply records. the diversity of mcguire’s musical leanings feeds into his distinctive sound, as his own take on stripped down, sensual house music bristles with unconventional energy to make for an unforgettable experience that steps up to the most creative frontiers of dance music. live drum sounds rattle around the mix free from quantized safety, while the melodic tones come on warm and fuzzy, capturing the hazy romance of a late morning session as much as the early part of the evening. it’s apparent that mcguire’s weapon of choice is the mpc, channeling his love of gritty beats in the grand tradition of point g and j. dilla. you can hear the spirit of the most adventurous micro house pioneers in the quirky funk of light hearted, while Óreitha revels in the transcendental qualities of a sustained groove without even a whisper of monotony. even with these unusual qualities the music is resolutely built for the dancefloor, and that mcguire manages to be so creative and so focused in the same beat is reason enough to keep tabs on this multifarious and unpredictable operator.

a couple years ago developer created a modularz sub label named - developer archive - the idea was to slowly release tracks taken from his personal collection and specifically made for his live dj sets. through developer archive these tracks are now being released in a limited amount and the chosen selection are the ones that developer felt made the largest impact in clubs and venues around the world.

ednic is the italian duo of nicola di gabbia and edoardo cortopassi, and by all intents and purposes, they’re an outfit that’s on to a good thing right now. the guys make quality, analog-enriched house and techno, the likes of which comes to the fore here on puas puas, a vinyl only label that’s already featured the likes of the mole, alex piccini and carola pisaturo amongst others. first up on the exceptionally refined strands of the auberste ep sis the sounds of the original, which is a barnstorming cacophony of acid flourishes and tension-filled motifs. a track that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for some time, it features shades of old-school electro and techno, and is the sort of track that’ll definitely rescue any ailing dancefloor. the aforementioned carola pisaturo then perks up with the first of her two remixes courtesy of her brilliant ‘church’ mix. a bumping and grinding interpretation on the original, it too keeps the suspense high, most notably thanks to a dizzying array of melodies and a series of potent basslines. her ‘botta’ remix is a more stripped back affair, albeit one that still speaks to fans of discerning fare thanks to its relentless attitude. full of shiny percussion and the odd sultry vocal smidgen, it’s further indication of a producer who looks set to enjoy an excellent 2015. this is classy stuff indeed from the puas puas label.

nebraska’s 2011 displacement album became a mister sound system favorite, & a steady stream of unreleased music aimed at eamon & justin, ensued. now he joins the fam.

delsins c-series, that has so far offered up excellently deep house from son.sine and raw sounds from gunnar haslam, now welcomes sven weisemann. known for his deep, atmospheric and cuddly house and dub, he draws on the heritage of detroit and chicago at the same time as imbuing tracks with his own sense of smoky, jazz infused soul. fall of icarus contains it all, heavenly pads accompanied by rasping basslines, blissful ambient chords, buried deep drum lines and beatless dub excursions. a slowly churning current drives things along as you are left suspended in the midst of it all and this one closes out another superlative ep from both delsin and weisemann.
